  Serious Issue ....... that MUST be Addressed !!!!!

  this is such an important issue, more and more people are succumbing to what must be some viral outbreak wreaking havoc in the world.. i'm talking about unnecessary punctuation.. it's easy to become infected.

  you want to write something and add some emphasis so you add an exclamation mark to make it "important!

  " but dang, it's not important enough is it??

  This is interesting:

  In the United States, periods and commas go inside quotation marks regardless of logic. Click HERE for an explanation (sort of).

  In the United Kingdom, Canada, and islands under the influence of British education, punctuation around quotation marks is more apt to follow logic. In American style, then, you would write: My favorite poem is Robert Frost's "Design." But in England you would write: My favorite poem is Robert Frost's "Design". The placement of marks other than periods and commas follows the logic that quotation marks should accompany (be right next to) the text being quoted or set apart as a title. Thus, you would write (on either side of the Atlantic):

  • What do you think of Robert Frost's "Design"? and
  • I love "Design"; however, my favorite poem was written by Emily Dickinson.

  Regional JW "Culture" - Did you experience any differences that surprised you?

  so this particular comment on another topic got me thinking about "regional" jw cultures.

  things that were acceptable in one area you lived in, that were absolutely verboten in the jw hall/circuit you perhaps grew up in etc.

  never met jws that cared if people played chess, and i knew a number of people who did play chess.

  The one about sister Payne in the rear reminded me of a similar one.

  The WT conductor called on a Sister Bush. Realizing his mistake he said, “I’m sorry, It’s Sister Birch,” and then, “I knew it was some type of shrub.”

  The school overseer was giving a Sunday talk on marriage. At one point he said, “brothers, if you want to be truly happy, marry an ugly woman.”

  All at once the entire audience turned to look at his wife who was quite homely.

  Sad.

  Another marriage talk, “sisters, it is your spiritual obligation to render that due morning, noon and night!”

  quite a few years ago there was a poster here that left the religion because he knew it was simply not true.

  however, he returned to jws because he wanted to be with his family.

  i don’t know how he is doing but gumby was his name.

  One young married sister kept having affairs. After the third one she was caught on video tape and disfellowshipped. She divorced and spent 3 years trying before getting reinstated even though she knew TTATT. She wanted her family and friends back and to secure her inheritance. But actually it was just the inheritance. Once she got that it was a slow fade and out of reach. Married a younger “worldly” man who was always known by the community to be gay.

  I’ve heard similar stories, primarily coming back for family and then doing a proper fade.

  Ironcally it does appear he did not fully disclose his abuses while previously charged. New allegations surfaced and were substantiated. I am unclear if he was currently or previously JW or “born again”

  Regardless, he is where he belongs.

  Jamal Ahmad Khashoggi was a Saudi Arabian journalist, author, and a former general manager and editor-in-chief of Al-Arab News Channel. He also served as editor for the Saudi Arabian newspaper Al Watan, turning it into a platform for Saudi Arabian progressives.

  You want to dismiss him as a journalist because conservatives have always been destroyed by journalists. Trump is the only one so far to fight back with any success. Free press is a liberal staple. Of course they are going to highlight this news item as a way to undermine conservatives and Trump. Conservatives have launched a smear campaign on Khashoggi to provide a soft spot for their base to land.

  Like a number of issues, you’ve got top GOP fighting amongst each other. The Senate knows exactly how much Trump loves SA because Trump has said so. Even GOP Senators are not willing to turn a blind eye for the sake of money. They don’t want to send the message that the USA can be bought off in the face of egregious behavior.

  Wow. I know a handful of kids at the time that got disfellowshipped for wanting to be rock stars. Actually disassociated because they were not baptized, but they were treated the same at the time. I know them all to this day 30 years later. All still rocking out in varying degrees of success.

  What a crazy ass religion.
